DHCP Server for WiMAX
A highly scalable, fully featured dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) solution that enables WiMAX Service Providers to efficiently manage IP addresses — including rapid allocation and subscriber activation — and track state persistence in real time to ensure that the maximum number of addresses is available.
Service Providers can reduce service activation costs by optimizing use of scarce IP address space, and increase subscriber satisfaction with faster activation and recovery from network failures. Because DHCP Server can trigger additional scripts or call-outs, Service Providers can leverage incremental revenue, for example, by promoting new services in real time.
DHCP Server at a Glance
- Highly configurable, centralized management options optimize use of scarce IP address space.
- Integration adapters for calling out to third-party software — for example, to check subscriber policy information on service authorization or to trigger additional scripts.
- High availability with redundancy options, enabling minimal time to restore service after significant network failures.
- Fraud-prevention support protects networks from abuse and security attacks, and can identify subscribers with overdue accounts and/or limit or prohibit their network use.
- Proxy support to integrate to mixed network deployments.
Features and Benefits
Policy Support
- Advanced policy engine inherited from AAA Service Controller.
- Configurable policy can trigger off any content within a DHCP message or message options (e.g., Option 82).
Address Pool Management
- Ability to centrally manage IP address pools and distribute them to remote DHCP servers.
- GUI and API are used for address pool provisioning and management.
- Networks and subnets can be assigned to specific address pools.
- Policy rules can be used to determine which address pool to use.
State Persistence
- Robust in-memory database tracks and manages MAC address/IP address association in real time, ensuring that the maximum number of IP addresses is available at any point.
MAC Address Exclusion List to Reduce Fraud
- A "black list" of MAC addresses from which DHCP messages are silently dropped.
- Used to combat DHCP storms, security attacks, virus protection.
Call-out Plug-ins for 3rd-Party Trigger Scripts
- Ability to call out to other applications within message flow.
- Allow for quick integration with other applications.
- Allow for customization of DHCP solution.
DHCP Proxy Support
- Supports 3rd-party DHCP servers, providing a convenient and high-performance mechanism to introduce the superior capabilities of the Bridgewater Systems DHCP Server without a flash cutover from a legacy server.
- Allows flexibility in scheduling when and how legacy systems are de-commissioned.
Redundancy
- Fully redundant configuration with load-sharing and automatic fail-over for rapid service restoration in event of significant failure event.
